Phew! August was a lot, wasn’t it? Hope everyone’s doing well. (Or, as well as they could be under the circumstances.)
Personally, I read so many books in August! And a lot of them were “outside my comfort zone”! In other words, I got the BIGGEST craving to try reading Sci-Fi & Fantasy after I gave up reading it shortly after Sarah J. Maas became the end-all for the genre (at least, that’s how it felt to me in 2012.) But nowadays, it’s so much more diverse and exciting and I CANNOT WAIT to read more SFF!!!

Five Books I May (Will?) Read Next Month
I’ve never been one to stick with a formal reading plan (it makes reading feel like chores), but here are five books I want to read soonish. Maybe I’ll read them, maybe I won’t—life is a rich and ever-evolving tapestry. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
- The Soldier’s Scoundrel by Cat Sebastian — Okay LISTEN. I have read one (1) book by Sebastian and I loved it and I am also a FRAUD and need to read more books. I keep adding The Soldier’s Soundrel to my immediate to-read list and then getting discouraged because it is ALWAYS checked out from the library. I am going to read this in September. I really, truly am!
- Steadfast by Sarina Bowen — I read the first book in this series earlier this year and never got around to reading the rest. I even purchased the entire series with my own money! (As a gift to my spouse, but still.) No excuses here!
- Realm of Ash by Tasha Suri — I read Suri’s first book, Empire of Sand, during my fantasy binge this month, and I have been promised this sequel is even better! Sign me up.
- The Swan Riders by Erin Bow — If I can muster the strength of heart to continue on after The Scorpion Rules left me desolated and broken, then I will read this. Or perhaps I will continue to weep over the first book for another month. Unclear what the proper move is here.
- Someone to Romance by Mary Balogh — This is really just dependent on if my library hold comes in. Right now Libby says I have ~4 weeks to wait. Mary Balogh is my favorite historical romance author, so of course I will read this eventually. Just a matter of when.
Here’s to a happy, peaceful, and productive September!

I’m still clawing my way out of a slump but books are starting to interest me again and I WANT to read – so I’m hopeful that September will be better.
My favorite read in August was Upright Women Wanted by Sarah Gailey, a dystopian queer western novella-ish (it’s category romance length!). I also enjoyed A Perfect Rake, an older historical by Anne Gracie.
September: I’m looking forward to finishing Mexican Gothic and the latest Susannah Erwin Desire, Cinderella Unmasked (I enjoyed her debut!). I also have a couple of Harlequin Historicals lined up.

Congrats on the new job Renae! Sometimes blogging has to take a back seat. I took a two year hiatus when I was getting married and thank God I did.
I attempting to finish one more book today. It’s a two hour audiobook so I should be successful.
