Who is this website for?

Anyone is free to comment or participate in discussion on Romantic Parvenu; my contact page provides a way to reach out to me in private.

I reserve the right to delete comments on posts without notice or explanation. Disagreeing with someone's subjective opinion is perfectly acceptable; tone policing, name calling, and/or personal attacks are not. Romantic Parvenu is a space for readers, and authors are not welcome to participate in discussions of their own work under any circumstances.

Comments on posts older than one year are automatically closed.

What do your star ratings mean?

My ratings translate as follows:

I loved this book! — This book was excellent—nearly perfect!

I enjoyed this book! — This book was really, really good!

I liked this book. — This book was good.

I was "meh" about this book. — This book was just okay.

I hated this book! — This book was terrible.

Please note that a "critical" review may accompany a "positive" star rating. I sometimes enjoy a book overall yet want to reflect upon potentially flawed aspects of the text.

A "positive" star rating does not equate to an endorsement of the book or its author.

How many books do you read in a year?

I read between 100-300 books a year. I only read when I’m in the mood for it, but I’m an extremely fast reader, so the numbers add up quickly.

Obviously, I do not review every single book I read. I would say 25-35% of books read get formally reviewed.

Will you read/review my book?

No. Unlike most book bloggers, I am not an influencer and/or promoter. I write book reviews because it's a fun thing to do for myself, not for the purpose of generating publicity. I have accepted review copies of books in the past, but it is not a regular practice.

You gave my book a “bad review” and hurt my feelings — what do I do?

You are free to do whatever you feel is best, but I would recommend not interacting with me in any way. Reviews are not written for authors, and I am not in the business of defending my honest (yet entirely subjective) opinion to those who purposefully read consumer reviews of products they made freely available on the market. The fact that I dislike your book has no reflection upon your worth as a human being
